This case study discusses a reliable, quick solution to evaluate the water ingress into the excavations, while the construction is in progress. The matter is reviewed for a 15 m diameter diversion tunnel in sedimentary rocks during the enlargement of the pilot tunnel to the full section. The water inflow inside the tunnel when excavated in full was estimated based on the amount of water discharge observed in the pilot. The predicted results were in harmony with the actual groundwater discharge occurred in practice. The approach did not need fuirther explatory drilling and field permeability testing. The anticpation of groundwater volume assisted the engineers for filedwork planning and relieved the management from facing unpredicted situations.
